Your paper must be submitted on Canvas, and should be uploaded for the Discussion Paper 3 assignment. The discussion paper must be at least two-pages in length (double-spaced, 12-inch Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins). I do expect your paper to be at least this length. Do NOT write less than this amount or use bigger margins or fonts. The only thing needed at the top of the first page is your name. No other heading is necessary. You are certainly welcome to write more than two pages.
I also want to emphasize that this is NOT a research paper. You should not use outside sources or attempt to do research to write this paper. Simply read the assigned reading, reflect on the issue(s) below, and write a paper that responds to those issue(s).
Please read “The Right to Due Process” by Patricia Werhane and “Case Study: Employee Relations at EDS”. (Both readings are posted on Canvas in the “Readings” folder.) The primary issue concerning employment rights, is whether employees should have some kind of right to their jobs, or whether they can be terminated for a bad reason or even no reason at all.
Your discussion paper should respond to the following questions:
1) What is the “employment-at-will” doctrine and what are employment “due process” rights?
2) Which one does Werhane support (employment-at-will or due process) and why?
3) Do you agree with Werhane’s view? Why or Why not?
4) Consider the EDS case study. What does your view on employment rights suggest is the ethically correct thing for the company to do in this case?
