Hello lovely writers!
For my History of the Modern Americas university course, I need to write a summary report (more details below) on an article published in the “NACLA Reporting on the Americas.” I will include an excerpt from the Professor about what his expectations are for this assignment.
Excerpt from Professor: “Please use both a title page and a works cited page (neither of these pages count toward your 4 pages of text). In your works cited page, compose your article entry in a format like this:
Nidia Bautista, “Justice for Lesvy: Indifference and Outrage in Response to Gender Violence in Mexico City,” NACLA Report on the Americas website (July 31, 2017).
In terms of the content of each report, I am looking for two main points of discussion. First, you should devote the first half of the report to a summary of the main points in the article that you selected. To help you to address this issue, consider some of these questions: What is the main issue being discussed? (i.e. immigration, elections, education, environment, women’s issues, crime, etc.) Who are the main personalities mentioned in the article? (i.e. Enrique Peña Nieto, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, President Trump, etc.) How does the issue affect the people of the country mentioned in the article? Does the issue have any connection with United States interests? In other words, please try to be as objective as possible during this portion of the assignment.
And for the second point of discussion, please analyze the article that you selected and present your point of view on the story. For example, how do you feel about the story? How did this article contribute to your understanding about modern Latin America? And what do you think about the author’s perspective on the article? I encourage you to present your views as you discuss this portion of the assignment.”
My professor has provided three links that discuss issues in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean (Cuba, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic) I have chosen an article to write the report about from the Canada section and I will include its link below. However, I want to give you as much flexibility as possible as writers and as such, I will include the direct link that leads you to these other libraries in case you find it easier to write about a different article.
This is the link to the article I chose from the Canada section: https://nacla.org/news/2019/08/01/canada%E2%80%99s-broken-pledge-human-rights-defenders
1. In case you would like to choose a different article, here is the link that includes all the issues under the Canada section: https://nacla.org/tags/canada
2. In case you would like to choose a different article, here is the link that includes all the issues under the Mexico section: https://nacla.org/tags/mexico
3. In case you would like to choose a different article, here is the link that includes all the issues under the Cuba section: https://nacla.org/tags/cuba
4. In case you would like to choose a different article, here is the link that includes all the issues under the Puerto Rico section: https://nacla.org/tags/puerto-rico
So “In summary, all you need to do is construct a series of clear and coherent paragraphs about this. Make sure your paragraphs are in the range of about 1/3 to 3/4 of a page. Don’t write any paragraphs longer than one page, and please be sure that all your paragraphs have at least 5 sentences. Avoid run-on sentences and sentence fragments. Ideally your review should be about 2/3 of a summary of the article’s main points, and about 1/3 with your perspectives on the article.”
